Writing Workshops with Jen Kunlire, May 22, 1:00-3:00 and 4:00-6:00pm

Jen Kunlire is a Calgary- based spoken word artist, singer and teller of stories. For the past five years, she has been involved in the Slam & Spoken Word Community across Canada. She’s coming through Regina and offering the following two workshops.

Carving iDentity through storytelling
Tuesday May 22, 1-3pm

What is your story? Who you present to the world around you reflects the innate stories of generations who have come before you. This workshop will help you weave your roots with present day characteristics that represent the unique style that is your voice. Writing prompts and performance techniques will be presented to steer you in the right direction in both written & performance based poems.

Through the eyes of a poet
Tuesday May 22, 4-6pm

What we perceive around us often determines what hue our experiences will be colored in. This workshop will challenge the participant to perceive through various lens and write poems based on “walking a mile in someone else’s shoes”. An interactive workshop, we will explore different voices, emotions and the imaginative capacity of the “viewer”, while simultaneously detaching your personal belief systems about the subject matter. It will challenge you to become the observer, quiet the need to question what, and rather become the object of your observation.

All levels of writing and ages welcome.

Pay what you can. Suggested fee of $25 for one or $40 for both workshops, but we won’t turn anyone away.
