Songwriter Sunday with Kayla Luky, Rebecca Lascue, and Eden Rohatensky, February 3, Doors at 7:30, $10

Our monthly event, Songwriter’s Sunday is back and offers a stellar line-up of singer songwriters, Kayla Luky from Winnipeg, MB, Rebecca Lascue from Regina, SK, and Eden Rohatensky on February 3rd.  Doors will open at 7:30 and the music will start at 8:00 pm.

Kayla Luky grew up in Grandview, Manitoba, a small farming community nestled between the Riding and Duck Mountains, but like many young folks in the area, Kayla fled to Winnipeg following high school. Her latest album “The Time it Takes” marks a complete countrification of her sound. Take the sentimental saddle song “Cowboys Are Coming”, the banjo-driven boot stomper “Lonesome Ranger” or the aching, heart-breaking “My Flowers Are Empty” with its sad pedal steel and love lost refrains. Metropolitan music makers would be hard-pressed to write a hard-luck song so genuine, but Kayla’s small town setting gives it absolute authenticity.

Songwriter Sunday, October 2, 7 pm workshop, 8 pm performance, 10 pm open mic

This is our final night of Culture Days, but it marks the first night of our monthly Songwriter Sunday!  Every month, we will be hosting a songwriter in the round event, sometimes in conjunction with a songwriting workshop, and always with an open mic session to round out the evening.

On Sunday, October 2, we are starting the night with a one-hour songwriting workshop at 7 pm, led by the one of a kind Kathy Stochmal.  Following the workshop, a songwriter-in-the-round performance will be led by Regina’s Rebecca Lascue, with additional performances by Jeans Boots, Nick Faye and Kathy Stochmal.  And following their set, the stage will be opened up to any songwriters who are brave enough to take the microphone.  This is a great opportunity to perform your new material and gain some experience performing as well as some feedback from other songwriters.  Best of all, this event is presented free of charge as part of Culture Days!  Thank you to SaskCulture for their support!

To register for the 7 pm songwriting workshop, click here!  To attend the 8 pm performance, just come to the Creative City Centre at 8 pm.  It’s free!  Free!  Free!
