After releasing his 2009 debut “Honey For Bees”, Sherman took his energetic performances to stages ranging from the Vancouver Olympics to Australia’s Woodford Folk Festival, earning international radio play. His highly anticipated second release “The Sun In Your Eyes” was awarded MusicNL’s ‘Pop/Rock Recording of the Year’ and earned him Newfoundland and Labrador’s ‘SOCAN Songwriter of the Year’ distinction. June 5/16 – Behind the Songs: A Songwriting Workshop with Kim Fontaine

Things to bring:
– your instrument (if portable)
– paper & pen for taking notes
– bring your own lunch or money (if you want to go out and get lunch during the break)

Participants will:
– Learn and/or review foundational songwriting elements, including hooks, structure, form, lyrics etc.
– Explore creative processes and ways to turn initial ideas in to songs.
– Be provided with tools to support the development of chord structures when building around melodic ideas.

Behind The Songs is a monthly concert series that features Canadian songwriters in a songwriters circle format.  We take songwriters from various backgrounds, put them on stage, and encourage them to share with the audience their songs, the stories behind the songs, and a bit about their writing process.  This intimate format enables the audience to feel closer to the songwriters and to learn more about them and their creative process.  You don’t have to be a songwriter to enjoy this, as long as you enjoy music, this event is for you!

Each month features three or four songwriters on stage, and this June, for the last event of the season, we’ve got Kirby Criddle, Jen Lane and Smokekiller (John Antoniuk).  Following their performance, there will be an open stage, where anyone is welcome to share one or two of their own songs.  Join us for this special night of music and story-telling, and in welcoming these three talented songwriters and performers to the stage… they will be on from 8:30pm to 9:45pm, with our open mic session to follow.  (The next season of Behind the Songs will begin in October.)

Brett Dolter, Glenn Sutter, and Rebecca Lascue, August 18, Doors at 8:00pm, $10

With a triple bill of incredible Regina talent, this show is guaranteed to be a great night of music. Brett Dolter, Glenn Sutter, and Rebecca Lascue will be taking the stage at the CCC on August 18. Doors will open at 8:00 and music will start at 8:30pm. Tickets will be $10 at the door.

Brett Dolter is a folk musician from Regina Saskatchewan.  He sings songs of sustainability that include tales of the joy of bicycling and the dirty tricks of corporate agribusiness. Brett recorded a live benefit album called Seeds with Glenn Sutter in 2010.  The proceeds of the album go towards the North Central community gardens project.  Brett also performs as roots musician B.D. Willoughby.  Backed by the post-country instrumentalists The Lazy MKs, B.D. Willoughby released his debut full-length album Forget About Me in August 2011.  B.D. Willoughby has played alongside Canadian icons such as Buffy Saint-Marie and Patrick Watson, Ryan Boldt (Deep Dark Woods) and Olenka and the Autumn Lovers and was selected as CBC Radio 3’s song of the day for his single Sunrise (from the EP Sunrise).  Prior to his solo career, Brett was lead guitarist for the Library Voices, and is featured on their releases Denim on Denim and Hunting Ghosts.
