CIPS Qualifier

Once a year, Regina’s best performance poets are invited to spit words and wit in a timed bit for a chance to represent our community at the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam in Vancouver, BC. This is an INVITE-ONLY event – meaning organizers must contact you prior to the event in order for you to compete. But EVERYONE is encouraged to attend! The more robust the audience, the more exciting the performances seem to be! If the winner of our Regina qualifier event goes on to become the winner of CIPS 2018, they can win cash and could be invited to compete at the World Cup of Poetry in Paris with travel and accommodation included.*

If you think you should be competing, and have not been contacted yet, please email us at reginawordup@gmail.com!

Poets were selected based on their participation in our 2017/18 seasons so far. The poet who wins this slam will travel to Vancouver in April to share their poetry on the national stage alongside top talent from across the country.

This event will include 3 rounds, in which poets will share a 2-minute poem, a 1-minute poem, and a 4-minute poem. The rest of the format and rules are the same as any regular slam. Due to time constraints, there will be no feature and an open mic may not happen.

Audience members, come prepared with a good set of lungs and some strong fingers to snap with.

January 18, 2018 – Very Good Painters opening reception

Very Good Painters: a Hague Gallery exhibition

January 15 – February 25, 2018; Opening reception January 18th, 7 pm

Featuring: Jeff Morton, Simon Fuh, Evan Tyler, Annette Nedilenka, and Nic Wilson

A group exhibition aimed at systematically poking fun at the notion of High Art and the traditional gallery system. A cheeky look at the classic fine art dichotomy, these artists utilize subversive art practices, from drawing with sharpies to re-imagining film slides, to understand their place within contemporary art. By referencing the respected art form of painting, each piece seeks to understand how traditional media fail to capture the artist within our continually evolving, visually-overloaded society.’

*Note: Some pieces in this exhibition contain content that some may find challenging.  Viewer discretion is advised.*
