Togs, Talent and Turkey Dinner: Fall arrives at the Creative City Centre

I have no idea where September went. I swear it was here a second ago and now I’m hauling myself out of a turkey-induced coma to write October’s blog.  [Read more...]

Culture Days: Nick Faye, Tara Holloway, Tiny, September 30, Doors at 7:30

We are celebrating the final day of Culture Days 2012, with a great concert with a killer lineup, Nick Faye, Tara Holloway, and Tiny! Doors will open at 7:30 and music will start at 8pm. Same as all other Culture Days, this event is free of charge.

Nick Faye is a musician from the dusty metropolis of Regina, SK. After composing his first songs at the age of 16, music took root in Faye like a wild prairie flower. A collection of EP’s and basement recordings followed. The Last Best West is Faye’s latest full-band offering that was released on Urban Planning Records on May 5, 2011. The Last Best West is an eight song collection of windswept thoughts and Prairie contemplations by Nick Faye and the Deputies. Written by Nick Faye over the summer and fall of 2010, the songs revisit vivid memories of small towns and family farms, lost romances and carefree summers spent along the sun soaked Qu’Appelle Valley. Faye’s music was written to be enjoyed while driving with the windows down on a muddy Saskatchewan back road.

Songwriter Sunday, October 2, 7 pm workshop, 8 pm performance, 10 pm open mic

This is our final night of Culture Days, but it marks the first night of our monthly Songwriter Sunday!  Every month, we will be hosting a songwriter in the round event, sometimes in conjunction with a songwriting workshop, and always with an open mic session to round out the evening.

On Sunday, October 2, we are starting the night with a one-hour songwriting workshop at 7 pm, led by the one of a kind Kathy Stochmal.  Following the workshop, a songwriter-in-the-round performance will be led by Regina’s Rebecca Lascue, with additional performances by Jeans Boots, Nick Faye and Kathy Stochmal.  And following their set, the stage will be opened up to any songwriters who are brave enough to take the microphone.  This is a great opportunity to perform your new material and gain some experience performing as well as some feedback from other songwriters.  Best of all, this event is presented free of charge as part of Culture Days!  Thank you to SaskCulture for their support!

To register for the 7 pm songwriting workshop, click here!  To attend the 8 pm performance, just come to the Creative City Centre at 8 pm.  It’s free!  Free!  Free!
