Week #22: An Empty Room with Jen Lane – “Waiting For You”

This Thanksgiving we are thankful to have Jen Lane’s performance of “Waiting For You” as the newest edition to our Empty Room series!  Looking back over the past eight years, Saskatoon-based recording artist Jen Lane has come to realize that the trials and tribulations she endured during that time has led to the creation of what is thus far her most personal, most compelling and most powerfully evocative album.  “Waiting For You” is a new song that finds Jen Lane in the exact place that she has always been meant to be; at the very heart of where country, roots and folk music harmoniously intertwine.

Catch Jen Lane “live” in Regina at O’Hanlon’s on Tuesday October 20th, and go to www.jenlane.com for a list of all upcoming tour dates!

There are 21 other Empty Room tracks waiting for you on our YouTube channel right now!  With two new tracks still to come be sure to tune in to CBC Radio next Monday morning at 8:15am to hear the debut of the next Empty Room track on the Morning Edition with Sheila Coles!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Behind The Songs is a monthly concert series that features Canadian songwriters in a songwriters circle format.  We take songwriters from various backgrounds, put them on stage, and encourage them to share with the audience their songs, the stories behind the songs, and a bit about their writing process.  This intimate format enables the audience to feel closer to the songwriters and to learn more about them and their creative process.  You don’t have to be a songwriter to enjoy this, as long as you enjoy music, this event is for you!

Each month features three or four songwriters on stage, and this June, for the last event of the season, we’ve got Kirby Criddle, Jen Lane and Smokekiller (John Antoniuk).  Following their performance, there will be an open stage, where anyone is welcome to share one or two of their own songs.  Join us for this special night of music and story-telling, and in welcoming these three talented songwriters and performers to the stage… they will be on from 8:30pm to 9:45pm, with our open mic session to follow.  (The next season of Behind the Songs will begin in October.)

Jen Lane and smokekiller, Friday, July 22, 8 pm

We are delighted to present Saskatoon’s Jen Lane and her musical partner in crime, John Antoniuk (aka smokekiller) on stage at the Creative City Centre, on Friday, July 22nd.  Doors open at 8 pm.

Think of Steve Earle and Allison Moore or Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons and you get a good idea of where these two Saskatoon singer-songwriters are coming from.  They compliment one another beautifully as they perform each other’s music.  John Antoniuk (smokekiller) comes from the indie/folk side of life and Jen Lane has a bit more country in her repertoire.  Together, they create straight ahead rhythms and harmonies that complete the musical package.  They have performed many times on a national stage showcasing at Canadian Music Week, North by Northeast and Prairie Scene, and achieved international recognition with four showcases at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas.

Tickets are available  at the door for $10.
