We are sold out – thank you Regina!

The Creative City Centre is very excited to present the Empty Room Showcase as the official launch of our second season of An Empty Room, a video series of recordings produced in our empty Hague Gallery in partnership with SaskMusic and CBC Radio One Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan singer-songwriters Megan Nash, Danny Olliver, Kirby Criddle, Keiffer McLean and Colter Wall will perform on Friday November 13 in the Hague Gallery at the Creative City Centre. Doors open at 7:30 pm, music starts at 8:00 pm.

The Empty Room video series saw 12 Saskatchewan artists record two audio and video tracks in our Hague Gallery, which were then broadcast on CBC Radio One as part of their Monday Morning Edition program. Each week, for 24 weeks, CBC would feature one of those songs every Monday morning. The videos are posted on YouTube, and provide Saskatchewan artists with a high quality video for use in promoting their own careers. While this program initially started as a Creative City Centre project under the direction of volunteer sound engineer and awesome human Brent Nielsen, we are delighted to welcome SaskMusic and CBC as supporting partners on this initiative. Behind The Songs is a monthly concert series that features Canadian songwriters in a songwriters circle format.  We take songwriters from various backgrounds, put them on stage, and encourage them to share with the audience their songs, the stories behind the songs, and a bit about their writing process.  This intimate format enables the audience to feel closer to the songwriters and to learn more about them and their creative process.  You don’t have to be a songwriter to enjoy this, as long as you enjoy music, this event is for you!

Josh Gonzales Band with Danny Olliver and Kaeli Dane, Nov. 22, Doors at 7:30, $10

Josh GonzalesJosh Gonzales is a Filipino singer-songwriter raised and currently based in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.  His music is breezy, light, and emotive, a brand Josh calls “soul-folk-pop”.  The music takes on a slight Hawaiian/Polynesian feel with lilting guitars, light percussion, throbbing keyboards, and galloping rhythms with vocals reminiscent of a combination between Bill Withers and John Mayer. Josh paints a picture of heartwarming honesty and incredible vulnerability, using his musical experience to poignantly showcase his eclectic, creative, and penetrating spirit and work ethic.  The result is music that lasts, containing beautiful sounds, melodies, and harmonies that are incredibly catchy and worthy of repeated listens.

Josh is in the middle of recording his first full length album with his songwriting partner/guitarist Thomas St. Onge, adding the musical experience of Jon Fearnside on bass and Cyprian Henry on drums. [Read more…]
