The second season of our Empty Room series starts next week on Monday, May 9 – exactly 5 years after the Creative City Centre opened it’s doors in Regina.  We are so excited to kick off our week long 5-year anniversary celebration with the first Empty Room video from Season 2!  Tune into CBC Radio at 8:15am on Monday to catch the premiere of the first recording on the Morning Edition with Sheila Coles.  Then, check out our YouTube channel to watch the first of this season’s 24 videos.

These videos are shot in our Hague Gallery by Brent Nielsen, who not only records the audio and shoots the video, but also mixes, edits and prepares the final product for audio airplay on CBC radio, and for video distribution through our YouTube channel.  Twelve Saskatchewan artists were selected to record two songs each, live off the floor to an empty room.  Join us each week to discover some of our homegrown talent!

Thank you to our sponsors, SaskMusic and CBC Radio, for helping bring the Empty Room back for a second season!

While you’re waiting for next week, check out this clip of “In With the Old”, one of the 12 artists you’ll be seeing this season.

Call for submissions! Be a part of Season Two of the Empty Room series!

If you are a member of SaskMusic, and have an interest in becoming part of our Empty Room video series, we are now accepting applications for Season Two of this exciting initiative!  These videos are shot in our Hague Gallery by Brent Nielsen, who not only records the audio and shoots the video, but also mixes, edits and prepares the final product for audio airplay on CBC radio, and for video distribution through our YouTube channel.  Brent is an amazing fellow.  As you can see by the videos from Season One that are all posted below, as well as on our YouTube channel, these are primarily acoustic performances.  If you’re part of a full band, give some thought to how you would strip down your songs to more acoustic renditions before you apply for this opportunity.  We will record two songs by each artist, and only twelve (12) artists will be chosen!

The purpose of the Empty Room video series is primarily to give Saskatchewan recording artists a new marketing tool.  Use these videos to help you get other gigs, or as supporting material in grant applications, or to promote a new single or upcoming tour.  We will be accepting applications until January 29, 2016 at midnight.  We will notify successful applicants by February 19th, and will begin filming our new season in March, depending on the schedules of all involved.  The CBC has come back on board, so starting in April 2016, every Monday morning at 8:15 they will be airing one track from the Empty Room series for 24 weeks….that’s six months!

The online application form is HERE, and is fairly simple to complete.  Upload two songs for the jury to hear…fill in all the blanks, and hit the submit button!  Apply now to be a part of the Empty Room series, sponsored in part by SaskMusic and CBC Radio in Saskatchewan.
