Season 2 – Week #24: An Empty Room with Nick Faye – “Kansas”

With Nick Faye’s performance of his song “Kansas”, season 2 of the Empty Room series comes to a close.  Nick Faye & The Deputies are a band from the deepest depths of the Canadian Prairies (Regina, SK). They make music that sticks to your ribs, like a big plate of perogies and sour cream. They will be heading into the studio in November to record their third full length album.  For more information go to: www.nickfayedeputies.com.

With all 24 videos from this season now on YouTube, you can watch these 12 talented Saskatchewan artists perform anytime you want!  There is so much talent in our home province and we’re grateful to SaskMusic and CBC Radio for helping us share some of that talent with all of you through this series.

You’ve seen the videos of these 12 talented artists, but let’s not forget about the talented man behind the scenes – artistic director for the series Brent Nielsen!  We’d like to give a big thanks to Brent for all the hard work he has put into the series over the last two years.  As camera man, sound tech, editor, and creator of the series, Brent really does it all!

Season Two premieres next week!

The second season of our Empty Room series starts next week on Monday, May 9 – exactly 5 years after the Creative City Centre opened it’s doors in Regina.  We are so excited to kick off our week long 5-year anniversary celebration with the first Empty Room video from Season 2!  Tune into CBC Radio at 8:15am on Monday to catch the premiere of the first recording on the Morning Edition with Sheila Coles.  Then, check out our YouTube channel to watch the first of this season’s 24 videos.

These videos are shot in our Hague Gallery by Brent Nielsen, who not only records the audio and shoots the video, but also mixes, edits and prepares the final product for audio airplay on CBC radio, and for video distribution through our YouTube channel.  Twelve Saskatchewan artists were selected to record two songs each, live off the floor to an empty room.  Join us each week to discover some of our homegrown talent!

Thank you to our sponsors, SaskMusic and CBC Radio, for helping bring the Empty Room back for a second season!

While you’re waiting for next week, check out this clip of “In With the Old”, one of the 12 artists you’ll be seeing this season.
