Season 2 – Week #20: An Empty Room with Rugged Little Thing – “Rocks and Shield”

Season 2 – Week #16: An Empty Room with In With The Old – “Mistreated Mama”

Today In With The Old makes old new again with their rendition of Virginia Liston’s “Mistreated Mama”! The northern Saskatchewan trio seamlessly combines raw talent and prairie camaraderie with a passion and respect for the music from the past.  Young and dedicated, they take a unique approach to memorable old-tyme music through gifted harmonies and infectious songwriting all told through a small town perspective. In July of 2014, they released their debut EP, ‘Rollin’ on Down the Plains’, and have plans to release a new full-length album in 2016.    For more information on In With The Old and their upcoming album go to: www.inwiththeoldband.com.

Season 2 – Week #8: An Empty Room with Rugged Little Thing – “Take A Number”

The banjo makes its second appearance in the second season this week with Rugged Little Thing’s performance of their song “Take A Number”!  Born out of kitchen jams and late nights by campfires in Canada’s north, Saskatoon’s Rugged Little Thing blends together a perfect cocktail of Old Time, Bluegrass, and Folk Music that feels like home. They will be playing a number of festivals in Saskatchewan this summer- including Jazz Fest, Ness Creek, All Folked Up, Taste of Saskatchewan, The Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Time Music Festival, and the Napatak Ramble.  With the release of a new album, a summer full of festivals AND their upcoming wedding, 2016 is shaping up to be an exciting year for this ambitious duo.  For more details on all of Rugged Little Thing’s upcoming events, go to www.ruggedlittlething.com.

Banjo-playing songstress Eliza Doyle (Midnight Roses, Hard Ramblers, Cracker Cats) is our second last Empty Room feature!  In this video, Eliza performs her song “Coulda Had It All” to an Empty Room, accompanied by bandmate Paula McGuigan on stand up bass and harmonies!  Doyle is currently making her first ever solo album with Paula and Liza Holder (Stackwall Studios).  Thanks to the Empty Room, we get to discover Eliza as a solo artist before the release of her album.  To check out Eliza with the Midnight Roses go to themidnightroses.com, and if you haven’t seen her first Empty Room video “Underground” be sure to check that out too.

Week #10: An Empty Room with Eliza Doyle – “Underground”

While you might know Eliza Doyle from the Midnight Roses, the Hard Ramblers, or the Cracker Cats, this banjo-playing songstress is now taking a break from bands to record her first ever solo album!  In this week’s Empty Room, Eliza performs her song “Underground”, with bandmate Paula McGuigan on stand up bass.  Paula and Liza Holder (Stackwall Studios) are working with Doyle on the upcoming album – in fact, Eliza is in the studio recording all this week.  No need to wait – you can discover Eliza as a solo artist by watching her Empty Room performance!  To check out Eliza with the Midnight Roses go to themidnightroses.com, and keep an eye out for more solo music.  (Eliza will also be doing a kids workshop (ages 5-8) at the Northern Lights Bluegrass Festival in August.)
