HowOwl is Regina based songwriter Blair Hornung’s intrigue with deep and inspiring earthen prairie themes, laid lightly over thick psychedelic folk rock.
About HowOwl
HowOwl is driven by musical dream states, distillations. HowOwl writes songs by gut and by pleasure. Inspired by the indirect artists, the prairies and forests, the hell that the hawk brings, erupting understandings, the I Ching – unchanging, the mind in its whispers and its forgettings.
HowOwl holds close the earth elements, birds, burrows, the celestial and earthly domains. The microverse reflected in the macroverse. His songs start with whispers. They circle into birds. Bird hands grasp at whisper winds. Swallows swarm, hawks circle. HowOwl gathers the wind storms, wields circles and bird songs.
Blair Hornung is a multi instrumentalist who develops music out of his home studio in Regina, Saskatchewan. Within the last decade Blair spent time living and taking inspiration from south-east British Columbia while becoming trained as a geographer and a resource manager.
HowOwl is the obfuscation of a decade’s worth of transcendental basement tapes and indie releases from his past pseudonym ‘Wooden Ship’. He is currently working on an album to be recorded this fall.
