About The Seahags
The Seahags are a country loving’, riot grrrl band from Saskatoon. They consist of a nurse, a shipper/receiver, two social workers, and a baker.
The saga of the Seahags is that they formed a couple years back during yet another cold prairie winter. They practiced in a basement suite on a reupholstered antique sectional learning traditional folk songs. A few seasons later, they felt being an acoustic folk band was both limiting and boring so they added drums and bass and plugged in.
Now, these ladies have been described as a cross between “the White Stripes singing country” with the “awkwardness and awesomeness” of the obscure 1970′s all sister teenage band The Shaggs. They are heavily influenced by old country music such as The Carter Family and Dolly Parton and the whole 90′s riot grrrl era. Their live shows feature a homemade stomp box, harmonica, call and answer, reverb, gospel, and five vocal harmonies.
Quickly rising in popularity in Saskatoon’s rich music scene, these ladies have just self-released their first EP — six tracks filled with banjo & mandolin and with songs about the prairies, their cats, and ex-lovers. In June 2011, the Seahags are about to set sail on their first mini-tour.

The Down Home Duo
The Down Home Duo is comprised of the principle members of the Down Home Boys, the boot stompin’, gun slingin’ string band based out of Southern Saskatchewan. With Brandon Wright on guitar and Erik Mehlsen on banjo, the duo has written many songs and have been performing for 3 years, combining the sounds of scrappy strings and slick vocal harmonies. Check out some of their work at www.thedownhomeboys.com
We predict there may be mighty fine banjo action all night long.
